This Month’s Volunteer Story
This month we feature Clondalkin volunteer Leyla Daryaniyan who tells us about her wonderful experience of volunteering at the Five Lamps Arts Festival.
My name is Leyla Daryaniyan and I am an artist. This summer I applied on I-VOL to volunteer at the Five Lamps Arts Festival Dublin.
After a short application process, I was delighted to be able to volunteer in June and July at one of the art exhibitions being held as part of the festival.
My role as a Festival Volunteer was to welcome people to an art exhibition held at the Central Bank. Lots of people attended and it was a privilege to work with the artist to share their paintings with others and talk about their work. I was also able to direct attendees to the artist’s social media platforms.
Art gives so much joy. Paintings are unique and specific to each person individually – like a fingerprint. It was wonderful to share that inspiration and insight with others. Also for me, as I am very interested in getting to know other cultures, meeting Irish people was very interesting, talking to them and from the artist’s paintings, learning more about lifestyles and interests.
As a volunteer I gained a huge amount personally and culturally by being part of the Festival and I am grateful for the opportunity.
