Diversity could be defined as ‘understanding, being aware and embracing the endlessly broad differences amongst humans’.
Diversity in volunteering is ‘actively encouraging people from all walks of life to volunteer & embracing different skills and talents’, as well as ‘opportunities to volunteer open to all, and all people treated equally while volunteering.’
As Volunteer Managers, we know there are certain challenges when trying to create a diverse volunteer programme, including a lack of resources, limited time, prevailing views on diversity in the organisation or a lack of knowledge on how to reach out to and include diverse populations.
There are many benefits to becoming more diverse, such as an increased pool of volunteers, new ideas and fresh approaches, as well as being reflective of your local community.
This training offers Volunteer Managers an opportunity to look at the benefits of embracing diversity, reflect on the current state of their volunteer programme, consider their and other views on diversity and practical steps that can be taken to create a more diverse pool of volunteers.

This training is for anyone who is managing volunteers – paid or unpaid – and would like to explore more about the topic of diversity in volunteering.
